Hi, I'm Heather: a mom, a leadership coach, and a former Chief of Schools living in Kansas City. I help parents get clear on what matters most in their family, get more aligned with each other, and lead their family on purpose.
For more than 20 years, my career came first. I worked as a teacher, principal, district leader, and Chief of Schools, building cultures where kids felt known, challenged, and capable.
I was so focused on that work that motherhood came later for me than it does for many.
Now I see it differently. Maybe all those years were preparing me for the most important leadership role of my life.
The questions I asked of schools matter just as much at my own table: Who are we? What matters here? What are we teaching by the way we live together?
For more than 20 years, I worked inside schools helping adults create environments where children could feel safe, capable, connected, and challenged.
Through executive coaching programs, I learned something equally important: how to help people find their own answers instead of handing them mine. That is how I work with parents, too.
I hold a master's in educational leadership and am completing my doctorate in educational administration and leadership. I am also trained in Yale's RULER approach to social-emotional learning.
Together, those experiences shaped how I think about leadership at home. It is not about control. It is about creating clarity, belonging, contribution, consistency, and repair.
I'm not here because I've perfected family life. I'm here because I know how culture gets built, and I'm doing this work in my own family too.
Children need adults who know them, a clear sense of what matters, meaningful ways to contribute, and relationships where mistakes can be repaired.
Stable, supportive relationships are one of the strongest foundations for resilience.
Shared values give kids a steady home base when the world around them feels unpredictable.
Kids develop capability by being given meaningful roles in family life.
Families do not need to stay perfectly in sync. Learning to reconnect after hard moments builds trust.
The Family Table is values-based and does not depend on any faith. If faith is important in your home, this work can help you bring those beliefs into everyday family life.
